The Kevin Warren And Ryan Poles Press Conference Didn't Make Anyone In Chicago Feel Better About The Future Of The Bears

The Bears organization is dysfunctional. That is the only thing I can say confidently about the Bears at this point. There's lots of fingers pointing around, but nobody is raising their hand saying "I am in charge. It ends with me". Eventually, Warren did say that Poles would have final say if the two of them disagree, but man did it take him a long time to say that. Only when repeatedly pressed did Warren move on from the "we'll figure that situation out" to "Ryan is the head of football operations. It will be his call".

That is the thing that has been so hard to figure out. The hierarchy in Halas Hall.

To find Poles the Bears brought in Bill Polian as a consultant. Polian obviously has a ton of ties to the Colts and there's speculation and innuendo that Eberflus was essentially hired by Polian before Poles took the job. Then I have been told that Warren wanted to fire Eberflus in January, but Poles advocated for Eberflus and continuity. So Poles went to bat for a guy he never really hired to begin with? I don't know. That one seems fishy. Then it's been rumored that Poles wanted to fire Eberflus after the Patriots game, but obviously that didn't happen. So who vetoed him? McCaskey? Warren? Who the hell knows. We do know that Warren, who is CLEARLY going to be involved in more things than just the stadium development, did not hire Poles. This press conference sure made it seem like Warren is going to be tethered to Poles for the entire coaching search. That makes me a little uncomfortable because if Poles' job is dependant on getting this hire right is he going to push against Warren who seems like he enjoys the power.

Just get Vrabel in here. Let him be the guy who makes the big decisions. Open up the bank. Give up control. Let's have an identity. A culture. Let's join the rest of the NFL.
